Staying safe
Meeting someone new
- Meet in a public place first, and stay in public until you feel comfortable.
- Tell a friend where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be back.
- Arrange your own travel, and keep your phone charged.
- Trust your instincts. You can leave at any time.
Protect your information
- Never send money, gift cards or bank details to someone you met online, whatever the reason.
- Be careful sharing your address, workplace or other personal details early on.
- Be wary of anyone who asks to move quickly to another app, or who avoids meeting or video calls.
Scams and suspicious behaviour
Common signs include sudden emergencies that need money, investment tips, and profiles that seem too good to be true. Use Report on a profile or conversation, and Block to stop contact.
If you need help
If you are in immediate danger, call 999. For non-emergencies in England, Scotland and Wales call 101. LGBTQ+ specific support is available from Galop (galop.org.uk) and LGBT Switchboard (switchboard.lgbt).
